Heated Blanket

The heated blanket utilizes electricity to provide a blanket that heats up faster and a bit more powerfully, rather than relying on body heat and insulation like the standard blanket. Typically this kind of blanket uses grids of thin, insulated wires in order to generate heat internally.

While the heated blanket has historically presented some fire hazard and burning dangers, today’s designs are generally a great deal safer. These designs use rheostats, which measure not only the heat generated by the blanket, but also the body heat generated by the user. This creates a more balanced, safer effect.

If properly stowed and cared for, a heated blanket is perfectly safe, especially if it has been purchased in the last few years. Just be sure to follow the safety instructions included with the blanket, and keep it away from water.
